How to price lawn care services

Lawn care margins are made or lost on drive time and per-visit minimums. Enter the time and fuel behind each job and this calculator prices mowing by yard size plus cleanups and add-ons, then makes a lawn care price list for door hangers, flyers, or your website.

Yard size and obstacles
Lot size sets the baseline, but trees, beds, slopes, and fences add trimming time.
Drive time and route density
Clustered routes are more profitable. Travel between jobs belongs in your price.
Fuel and equipment wear
Mowers, trimmers, and trailers need fuel, maintenance, and eventual replacement.
Frequency
Weekly customers are cheaper to serve per visit than one-off jobs. Price one-time visits higher.

The formula behind the calculator

Cost = (hours × your hourly pay) + supplies + travel. Price = cost × (1 + overhead) ÷ (1 − margin), rounded up to the nearest $5 (or $1 under $20). Add-ons skip the travel and setup charge, since they ride along with a main service. Every input is yours to change, so you can see exactly how each assumption moves your prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I charge to mow a lawn?

Time a few yards of each size, multiply by your target hourly pay, add fuel and equipment costs, travel, overhead, and margin. Then set a minimum per visit.

Should I charge less for weekly service?

Many lawn pros offer a slightly lower per-visit price for weekly or biweekly customers because the route is predictable and the grass is easier to cut.

How do I price overgrown lawns?

Use a surcharge or quote after seeing it. Overgrown grass can take double the time and is harder on equipment.
