How to price nail tech services

Nail art and long acrylic sets can take twice as long as a basic gel manicure, but many nail techs price them almost the same. Enter the time and product behind each service and this calculator prices your whole menu, then designs a nail price list you can post or print.

Appointment length
Count prep, application, curing, and cleanup. Full sets and long lengths take much longer than fills.
Length and shape
Longer nails and complex shapes such as coffin or stiletto use more product and time. A length surcharge keeps them profitable.
Nail art
Price art per nail or in tiers (simple, detailed, 3D) so intricate designs pay for themselves.
Soak-offs and repairs
Removing another salon’s work takes time. List soak-offs and repairs as separate services.

The formula behind the calculator

Cost = (hours × your hourly pay) + supplies + travel. Price = cost × (1 + overhead) ÷ (1 − margin), rounded up to the nearest $5 (or $1 under $20). Add-ons skip the travel and setup charge, since they ride along with a main service. Every input is yours to change, so you can see exactly how each assumption moves your prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a nail tech charge?

Price each service from its real appointment time, your target hourly pay, product costs, and booth rent or salon overhead, then add profit margin. Then check where that sits against local salons.

Should I charge extra for long nails?

Yes. Longer nails take more product and time. Many nail techs add a length surcharge or list prices by length.

How do I price nail art?

Per nail or by tier works best. Time a few designs and price so the art pays at least your normal hourly rate.
