How to price makeup artist services

Makeup artists often price the application and forget the rest: travel, early call times, kit cleaning, and trials. Enter the full time behind each service and this calculator prices bridal, event, and lesson services, then builds a makeup price list for inquiries and Instagram.

Full service time
Include travel, setup, application, and touch-ups. On-location bridal work often runs far longer than the makeup itself.
Kit and product cost
High-end products, sanitizing, and disposable tools are real per-client costs.
Trials
Bridal trials take as long as the wedding-day service. Price them separately or credit them toward the booking.
Early starts and travel
Early call times and long drives deserve set fees on your price list.

The formula behind the calculator

Cost = (hours × your hourly pay) + supplies + travel. Price = cost × (1 + overhead) ÷ (1 − margin), rounded up to the nearest $5 (or $1 under $20). Add-ons skip the travel and setup charge, since they ride along with a main service. Every input is yours to change, so you can see exactly how each assumption moves your prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a makeup artist charge?

Price from the full time per client (travel, setup, application, touch-ups), your target hourly rate, kit costs, and overhead, then add margin.

Should I charge for bridal trials?

Yes. A trial takes as long as the wedding-day service. Many artists charge for it and credit part of the fee toward the booking.

How do I price travel?

Include a travel radius in your base prices and add a per-mile or flat fee beyond it.
